Since the Industrial Revolution, people have used lots of chemical materials for better existence. It is obvious and clear that they are really useful materials to us, but now they intimidate into destroying our environment because of their power and toxicity. One of the most serious areas is the North Pole. The neighboring districts discharge and exhaust pollutants and contaminants such as toxic chemicals, DDT, PBDE, and Freon Gas, to the North Pole by an ocean current. Because of these, many polar bears have died and changed to be deformed.

I plan on writing about solution to the problems of polar bears in the
North Pole. First, we have to invent alternative energy. Energy that can destroy the environment is not a good material for us but is an intimidator. Second, we should observe them what happen. It is unfortunate to observe polar bears fall in a danger, but we can make ways of prevention and protection for us. Third, the governments of each country have to show people the significance of the problems of pollution. People still use these toxics because they do not have information about pollution. I believe that we can protect ourselves from pollution.

Reference
Marren, P. (2006, Jan. 16). Walking on the thin ice. The Independent, London. These were obviously necessary for us. For example, they have given convenience, have protected us from the disaster, like fire, and have been elevated our life. Moreover, they could be a technological leader in this world. However, nowadays, these are threatening our environment and human as us. According to this issue that I mention, there are three main chemical materials which affect pollution in the Arctic and the mammals such as polar bears. Thus, I am going to mention why we have to stop using them and how we solve these problems.

First, there are three main chemical materials which harm environment included polar bears. They are PBDEs, DDT, Freon Gas that have been actually useful chemical materials for getting high quality life and protecting our life since the Industrial Revolution. However, they are destroying strongly polar bears. For example, PBDEs, which used in an insulator, can make polar bears to be hermaphrodite which has both female and male sex organs. Next, DDT, which protects crops from the insects, can make polar bears to palsy the central nerve. Finally, Freon Gas, which used in the refrigerator, freezer, and the air conditioner, can destroy Ozone Layer. It is called Global Warming. In fact, ice in the Arctic is melting because of Global Warming, so that many polar bears lost their ground, and they have to swim long distance for finding another area for surviving.

Second, we have to stop using these chemical materials. It is true that they have helped developing technology and given to us convenience life. I have no idea how our life is good or not if we didn’t have chemical materials. However, they are affecting badly polar bears, like that I mention. Also environment is pollutant by chemical materials. If environment can be purgation, we must wait centuries or forever. Therefore, now we know that chemical materials harm environment including polar bears, so that we have to stop using and making chemical materials anymore.

Third, we have to consider as soon as possible inventing materials which does not affect harmfully environment instead of theses chemical materials. We cannot live without them. In summer, we really need an air conditioner, and a refrigerator. Moreover, during burning fire, we can survive because of PBDEs. Also, farmers can harvest high proportion of crops because DDT can protect crops from the insects. However, we have to eliminate them for protecting polar bears. Therefore, the government and the organism of environment and science have to invent alternative energy such as solar energy, hybrid power, and wind power instead of chemical materials.

In conclusion, we have to protect polar bears lived in Arctic. Do you know why? Are polar bears just our friends? No. Actually, these problems by chemical materials are not only polar bears, but also our problems in near future. Nobody knows that we can be hermaphrodite by chemical materials, our land can be soaked in the sea, and we can get a disease from DDT. Nowadays, our job is to keep our environment that we live in.

Toxic waste creates hermaphrodite Artic polar bears

ERIC JANG
S.R #2

According to David Usborne, Artic polar bears are being poisoned by chemical compounds. One of the most serious and interesting kinds of evidence is the problem of hermaphrodites in polar bears. About one in 50 female bears have both male and female sex organs. Also, we should know and research the fact that polar bears, the final level of the food chain, are the most common victims because of the concentrated pollution from the food chain.

Nowadays, chemical compounds like endocrine disruptor has been the most serious problem in the world. Many researchers have tried to do research about chemical compounds, but they couldn’t clearly suggest how to solve the problem. I am going to show you what endocrine disruptor is, how to solve that, and how it affects us.

First, endocrine disruptor is not provided by a normal organism, but by chemical material from industrial activity. It can obstruct normal functions in animal organisms, even humans. Actually, it was produced by industrial materials such as DDT, PBDE, and dioxin. Usually, it is made when industrial materials are burned. There is a serious problem, which is that it causes a decrease in spermatozoon in animals and makes animals hermaphrodites. That is why polar bears could be hermaphrodites.

Second, in advanced countries, like the US and Japan, they perceive the truth, and try to protect animals from endocrine disruptors. They control and regulate the use of them. However, many countries, like underdeveloped countries, still continue to use them. Therefore, OECD, which is Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, tried to overhaul countries about that in 1998.

Third, endocrine disruptors affect not only animals, like polar bears, but also humans. If endocrine disruptors seep into our body, we can get a deformed child; also our body will be changed to get a disease. There are many ways to protect from endocrine disruptors. For example, we should eat clean food, and we should let babies eat mother’s milk. Also we should reduce our household refuse and use recyclable stuffs.

In conclusion, actually it is not only animals and environment problems but also our problems. We have to quickly make an alternative energy and then we can get away from endocrine disruptors. After we do that, we can protect our babies and us.

Reference

Usborne, D. (2006, Jan. 10). Toxic waste creates hermaphrodite Arctic polar bears. One source of chemical pollution is PBDE, which can protect us from fire. It was designed to keep a long time, so it can be used by producing for safety such as sofas, car sheets, and others. Actually, the polar bears are the greatest of PBDE, which badly affects the food chain, because they usually are the top-level in the food chain. Also, they had to swim up to long lengths for getting food because foods were exhausted by the warm climate. However, it is difficult for them, even though they are good at swimming, because of changing climate and pollution. PBDE is a threat to no the environment of not only the North Pole but also the rest of the world.

Currently, the world is in a serious situation about the pollution. One of the greatest victims of Arctic pollution is polar bear. Let’s learn what is happening in the Arctic now, and I am going to present the solution about that.

First, chemical materials can make serious problems. There are many chemical materials that can be dangerous materials, but the big three of worst in the world are DDT, PBDE, and Freon gas. DDT is used in the production of plants. When farmers grow their plants, they have to protect their plants from worms. DDT keep worms away, so many farmers use it. Next, PBDE is used in appliances, sofas, carpets and car seats to make them flameproof. In fact, it was very useful for safe when we had a fire. It could protect our life from the fire. Next, Freon Gas is used in air conditioner or in each kind of spray. Air conditioner makes a cool wind with Freon gas.

Second, what do they make damage about pollution? Freon gas destroys the ozone layer. We know that the ozone layer protects us from the ultraviolet, which can make a disease of our skin. Also, the hot light from sun cannot go out of the earth after it came to the surface of earth. This situation is called global warming. Because of global warming, our environment has been strangely changed abnormally; the surface of the sea has gradually risen, and many fishes, living under the cool water, have moved. On the other hand, bad chemical materials flow into the sea; so many fishes spawn deformed baby fishes.

Third, we can solve this problem in 3 ways. The government should support farmers who do not use DDT while producing their plants. For example, they should make a public relations campaign that clean food is good for your health. Next, they should develop alternative energy instead of DDT, PBDE, and Freon gas. Finally, the government should let people know about the situation of pollution in the Arctic because people will consider saving their environment if they know that.

In conclusion, the pollution of the arctic is a problem to polar bears, but it will be our problem after that. It is obvious that these problems can kill us like polar bears. Before these problems happen to us, we have to consider and make a solution. Then, we will protect our children and ourselves.

Reference

Marren, P. (2006, Jan. 16). Walking on the thin ice. The Independent, London. In Alaska, average summer temperatures have kept increasing by 2~3C degrees since the1950s. Presently, lots of researchers, who investigate polar bears, tell us many polar bears are dying, and expect that they are going to be killed by lack of food. In fact, there are many sources of food for polar bears, but they could not find their food since the climate changed abnormally. Therefore, they had to compete with each other to get food, or they had to leave to another place, which has lots of sources. Some polar bears, which left to finding food, could be dying when they met rough seas, unfortunately, even though they are good at swimming on the sea. Finally, many polar bears fell into serious problems of existence.

In fact, it is obvious that we are falling into terrible problems of nature pollution. I am going to relate what the problems of polar bears are, and how we could solve these problems for polar bears in Alaska.

First, one kind of pollution is air pollution. After the industrial revolution, the climate has changed into a strange situation in the world because of toxic substances like freon gas. Freon gas is very useful to our life as it is used in a spray or air conditioning. In summer, we have to turn on the air conditioner to avoid hot weather. The cool wind of the air conditioner is made by freon gas. While the air conditioner is working, it will make lots of freon gas, and then this freon gas will destroy the Ozone layer. Actually, it is really a serious problem presently.

Second, the climate will increase in degree by because of the destroying of the Ozone layer. And now, it is the truth that the North Pole is melting. Therefore, many polar bears are fighting other bears or leaving the North Pole to get food, or some polar bears are dying.

Third, actually it is not only problems for the polar bears, but also for us. We have to find a solution, because it is possible that we are going to lose our land if all parts of the North Pole are melted by the hot weather. Also, if the Ozone layer is destroyed, ultraviolet rays will fall down on the land and then we might get a disease of the skin. In fact, many countries are trying to use other resources such as electric power, waterpower, and wind power instead of freon gas. Also, many governments already made the law, regulating to use Freon gas. If we use crude resources for something, we cannot only protect polar bears but also ourselves.

In conclusion, lots of polar bears have fallen into the serious problems presently because of the strange changing climate. Because of our mistaking about using freon gas, the temperature of the climate is increasing and the North Pole is melting. Therefore, many polar bears have lost their ground and food, so they are in crisis. I think that polar bears are the first victims, and the second victims will be us.

Reference
Iredale, W. (2005, Dec. 18). Polar bears drown as ice shelf melts. Such company tried to build Wal-Mart Supercenter in the small city, Murphysboro Illinois, in 2003. Kristen Cates said “While plans for a proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter moving to the Illinois 13 and Country Club Road neighborhood haven't moved forward, the argument over who supports the megastore and who is opposed rages on” (2005, Apr p. 1). At that time, the inhabitants of Murphysboro were opposed to Wal-Mart. They were usually people who are owners their small stores in Murphysboro, and they already knew that they have to close their stores after building Wal-Mart. Also, there are only narrow routes because of the small town, and there is no a big area to build Wal-Mart, so it will make a problem about traffic jam. Wal-Mart did not care them even though they were starting a campaign against about that, and Wal-Mart had a secret meeting that was making a plan of building Wal-Mart with members of the public works committee. Mayor said “it became public knowledge tonight," and "to this time Wal-Mart has not made a commitment to the city. This was not a secretive meeting in my mind”(Cates K. 2005, Sep. p. 1). Ron Williams, the mayor of Murphysboro, could guess a profit of city, it Wal-Mart build in Murphysboro, but he couldn’t ignore opinions of the inhabitants. Therefore, he decided to announce to them about the plan of building Wal-Mart. Finally, Wal-Mart determined on building in Jackson County, between Murphysboro and Carbondale. And Wal-Mart promised that they construct the 13 route in front of the Wal-Mart area. KRISTEN CATES wrote that “Williams said Wal-Mart has agreed to pay for roadway improvements on Country Club Road and Illinois 13 as well as traffic intersections”(2005, Sep. p. 1). Actually, the US cannot control directly to the big company, like Wal-Mart because the US operates on the capitalism system. Why people opposed to build Wal-Mart in their city, and how to get a profit together both the inhabitants and Wal-Mart? Let’s know what the bad problems of Wal-Mart are, and why the inhabitants oppose Wal-Mart, and what the inhabitants and government of Murphysboro should do.

First, I am going to talk about the strategy of Wal-Mart to make a fool of customers. According to Scareduck, "Wal-Mart's 'everyday low prices' are the result of an unprecedented retail operation that staggers the imagination and beggars description"(2005, Nov). If you go to Wal-Mart, you can see lots of goods and price of the sign. I was surprised this price because these were too cheaper than price of other stores. However, there is a trick that the cheap goods, goods of the special price are usually in main area such as an entrance or a passageway. And if you into the back area in Wal-Mart, you can see some goods, which are not cheap. Therefore, if you shop without a plan, you will be surprise because of high cost. The goods of Wal-Mart usually have high taxes even though it is small goods. Next, it is obvious that goods of Wal-Mart are cheaper than others. However it is not the same goods and the different prices. Peter S. Goodman and Philip P. Pan said “Most of the 2,100 workers here are poor migrants from the countryside who have come to this industrial hub in southern China for jobs that pay about $120 a month”(2004, Feb. p. a01). Almost of all goods in Wal-Mart is made by China. In China, actually labor is cheap, so it is possible that they can sell or product cheaply their goods, but it is a public opinion that the goods from China are not a good quality. Namely, cheap goods of Wal-Mart have a low quality, so we cannot decide that cheap goods are fine. According to some article, “if you buy a Chinese-made low price item from Wal-Mart, or other big national chains, you are not saving money”(Pan, P.P., Goodman, S. P. 2005, Sep. p.1). For example, when I was going to buy a bicycle, I was in agony between Wal-Mart and the bicycle store. The bicycle of Wal-Mart price was just 20% of the bicycle, made by the US. Therefore, I paid $40 and bought a bicycle in Wal-Mart, but I had to throw away my bicycle because it had a lot of problems, and I didn’t want to spend my money for the repairing charge. Like this, $40 is cheap for buying the bicycle, but if it is not working, $40 is expensive. Last problem is sexual discrimination. According to Anna Maria, “Women comprise over 72% of Wal-Mart's sales workforce and less than 33% of its managers, and one of the seller said “"Women seeking promotions have been told that women with children can't be managers, that women cannot effectively manage men"(2006, Jan. p. 1). That is why people do not like Wal-Mart.

Second, let’s know why the people did not need Wal-Mart in Murphysboro. Murphysboro, one of the small towns in Illinois, has many small stores such as a grocery, a bookstore, an antique mall, and others. And owners of these stores are inhabitants, who live in Murphysboro. If Wal-Mart build in Murphysboro, it is obvious that they had to close their stores because Wal-Mart will offer the same and cheap items. Therefore, they had to obstruct building Wal-Mart for their life. On the other hands, Wal-Mart can be a good market for a burgher people. However, there is already Wal-Mart Supercenter in Carbondale. Carbondale is near Murphysboro, 20 minutes from Carbondale by a car. Therefore, if they need to buy cheap items, or want to shop in the big market, like Wal-Mart, they go to Carbondale. Next, actually Murphysboro is a small town. There are many small buildings and narrow routes. Therefore, if Wal-Mart builds in Murphysboro, Wal-Mart will make serious traffic jam, and then many people will be uncomfortable when they are driving.

Third, the government including the mayor should find the ways to succeed with the inhabitants because nobody can control Wal-Mart in the capitalism system of the US. I have three ideas about that. The government make that Wal-Mart has to procure from the stores in Murphysboro. We have a problem that many small stores have to close their stores because of Wal-Mart. However, if Wal-Mart get items from small stores in Murphysboro, they do not have to close or move their stores. Next, the government should make a special system of tax that to give low taxes to the stores in Murphysboro, and to give high taxes to Wal-Mart. If they do this, owners of small stores can keep operate their stores. On the other ways, 10% of the profit of Wal-Mart supplies to the society of Murphysboro. Like theses, they have many ways to be better. They should not obstruct Wal-Mart, but find great way, like that.

In conclusion, it is impossible that somebody control big company, like Wal-Mart, for caring small stores because capitalism, an economy system of the US, pursues basically the free competition. Moreover, Wal-Mart will give more serious damage to Murphysboro than a bloom town because of an old town. Therefore, they should grope the greatest way to be better to using Wal-Mart.

Reference

Cates, K. (2005, April, 23). After reading this article, I could learn why. People who live in Murphysboro have different options between agreeing and disagreeing to building Wal-Mart. Some people said that Murphysboro is not a good place for Wal-Mart; also, it will make a traffic jam in Murphysboro. On the other hand, after building Wal-Mart in Murphysboro, there are factors about business development and increasing sales taxes. However, while Wal-Mart was trying to get permission from the government of Murphysboro, Wal-Mart did not tell the inhabitants. Wal-Mart advanced a secret meeting with members of the public works committee for building in Murphysboro without the mayor or inhabitants. Therefore, the mayor couldn’t know about this situation, so the mayor announced to inhabitants about building at Murphysboro because of the Freedom of Information Act request. Finally, Wal-Mart decided to build in Jackson County instead of Murphysboro.

I plan on writing about a solution to the problems of Wal-Mart Supercenter at Carbondale-Murphysboro, in Jackson County. First, Wal-Mart tried to build using illegal behavior, even though Murphysboro doesn’t need Wal-Mart. For example, Wal-Mart didn’t tell people, and they advanced a secret meeting without the inhabitants. Wal-Mart should tell them even if they don’t like Wal-Mart. Second, the mayor should find a good way to get profit to Murphysboro. Third, the inhabitants should think about how to make better use of Wal-Mart.
I have found why some people don’t like Wal-Mart even though it is a very convenient store. It is obvious that Wal-Mart can give us much profit, but Wal-Mart should be an ethical store.

Reference

Cates, K. Its purpose is for defending from monopoly. Today, it is obvious that Wal-Mart can be the winner in free-market capitalism. And now, Wal-Mart is extending to build many stores. For example, Wal-Mart tried to build at Murphysboro even though the inhabitants who live in Murphysboro do not want Wal-Mart. However, Wal-Mart could build in Jackson County, between Murphysboro and Carbondale because of the free-market capitalism system. Now, I am going to explain what free-market capitalism is. It is the ideal of capitalism. It induces free competition, and then it can create the development of an economy. Actually, the US is not capitalism, but modified capitalism. This means that Murphysboro had a power of control to build or not about Wal-Mart, but they didn’t do that. Then, why did Wal-Mart want to build at Murphysboro, and didn’t the inhabitants want Wal-Mart? Also, why did the government want Wal-Mart to build at Jackson County? Let’s find out what was happened to Murphysboro when they decided to build Wal-Mart.
First, Wal-Mart tried to build in Murphysboro even though Murphysboro is an old town. Actually, Murphysboro is not suitable to Wal-Mart because there is no university and no new big town. However, I guess that Wal-Mart had an eye on Murphysboro because they guessed that the inhabitants of Murphysboro want to shop in the huge mall. However, it was rejected by them because they still wanted to live in Murphysboro as an old town.
Second, the inhabitants didn’t want Wal-Mart. They have a job or stores in Murphysboro. However, if Wal-Mart comes to Murphysboro, they will exactly go bankrupt because many people will go to Wal-Mart instead of small stores.
Third, the government did not want Wal-Mart to build in Murphysboro, but to build in Jackson County, because of the opposition of inhabitants. However, if Wal-Mart builds in Jackson County, there is no problem, and the government can get profit.
In conclusion, my opinion is that this issue has a relation with individualism. This problem is caused by the desire for each party to profit whose Wal-Mart, and the government of Murphysboro, and the inhabitants. Wal-Mart wanted extension, and the government of Murphysboro wanted to get profit that is from Wal-Mart. Also, the inhabitants wanted to get money without Wal-Mart because Wal-Mart could kill small stores at Murphysboro. Therefore, it is natural that whether to build Wal-Mart became a serious problem, and they had to decide about that. However, if they understood each group about each problem, and they tried to find a solution, many people can be happy.

The economy shift

I am going to define about an economy effect. Before I talk about that, I make a clear to you about inflation, disinflation, and recession. Inflation means an economic condition in which prices rise steadily throughout the economy, also a rising economy and kept high degree and value of money. Disinflation means an economic condition in which the rate of inflation moderates, also a falling economy and turn down degree. Next, recession means a temporary downturn in economy activity, which is indicated by two consecutive quarters of a falling GDP. Actually, a circulation of money is important to develop an economy. However, if circulation of money is not working, an economy will fall recession. Let’s know what happens when an economy shifts from a period of high inflation to a period of disinflation.

First, money will be not a circulation. If an economy shifts to a period of disinflation, many goods will have high price because demand is bigger than supply. It is a general situation that it is the same level between a demand and a supply. However, if these two were unbalance, an economy system will be broken. Also, if supply of goods will decrease, these goods will increase value. For example, a sports car is a very special car in the world because of specific design, so it can be higher price. Therefore, if an economy goes to a period of disinflation, and then many goods will be higher price, many people doesn’t want to spend money.

Second, many people will lose their jobs. Many companies will reduce workers because they cannot make goods any more, also they do not have a lot of money because many people don’t want to spend their money; so many companies cannot get money. For example, when Korea needed to help from IMF, Korean companies had to reduce workers. And then Korea had a lot of jobless people.

Third, many people will not spend their money. They want to save their money. Because they will lose jobs, they cannot get money. If so, both company and people cannot get money, and it is obvious that country will fall seriously to panic of an economy. In 1997, Korea had a big panic of the economy, so IMF helped us to support money. During falling a panic of the economy, Korean lost their jobs, and many companies had to close companies. This situation would still continue for 4years and many graduate students had to go abroad or take a rest because they couldn’t get a job.

In conclusion, I think that it will be continue because these have a deep relationship. During disinflation of an economy, if country wants to escape from disinflation, the government should help them. For example, the government should untie their money, make low taxes, and create new jobs. Also, the government ought to support companies.

Wal-Mart

EAP2 WW
S/R #2
ERIC JANG

According to this article, Murphysboro approved design plans for Wal-Mart Supercenter at Murphysboro. Wal-Mart advanced a secret meeting with members of the public works committee for building at Murphysboro even though the inhabitants didn’t want to do that. However, the major couldn’t know this situation, so major announced to inhabitants about building at Murphysboro because of the Freedom of Information Act request.

Wal-Mart has three main problems in its process of building a Wal-Mart. There is one example about Murphysboro. Although Wal-Mart could build at Murphysboro, they advanced a secret meeting without opposing people. Let’s consider what is wrong about building a Wal-Mart in Murphysboro.

First, Wal-Mart ignored the freedom of information of its inhabitants. They had a secret meeting with members of the public works committee that if Wal-Mart can build at Murphysboro, they will support building 1llinois 13 intersections. However, Inhabitants didn’t know that before the mayor announced about that.

Second, Wal-Mart ignored the opinion of inhabitants. Actually many people don’t want Wal-Mart to build at Murphysboro because they want to keep having an old town. Therefore, they don’t need Wal-Mart Supercenter. However, Wal-Mart can continue on their project to build at Murphysboro because they usually use secret meeting with members of the public works committee.

Third, Wal-Mart used a shallow technique. They said that they would support Illinois 13 highway if Murphysboro approved their plan. I think that it is not real support for Murphysboro but a kind of flattery. Also, Wal-Mart will be satisfied with spending money for Illinois 13 highway by the high price of its goods. Actually, Wal-Mart deprived a privilege of the inhabitants to choose stores. It is truth that many small stores, which are various stores, are killed by Wal-Mart Supercenters. Also, goods of Wal-Mart have expensive taxes. In fact, goods of Wal-Mart are cheaper than any others, but they are of bad quality.

In conclusion, Murphysboro is not a possession for one person, but a possession of the people who live in Murphysboro. Of course, a member of an assembly, like a mayor, can decide about that, but opinions of inhabitants are a more important thing than any others. I am really disappointed in the behavior of Wal-Mart and the people who have power.

Reference
Cates, K. (2005, September, 07). Some people said that Murphysboro is not good place for Wal-Mart; also it will make a traffic jam in Murphysboro. On the other hand, after building Wal-Mart in Murphysboro, there are factors about business development and increasing sales taxes. The mayor of Murphysboro said that he would adopt a profitable way for Murphysboro. Therefore, they will make a wise choice for Murphysboro because they have to protect the city of Murphysboro.
It is obvious that Wal-Mart has many problems. Actually, some people who don’t know Wal-Mart think that Wal-Mart is a pretty nice store, because it is a huge store. This is absolutely the situation, because there are so many kinds of goods, customers trust Wal-Mart because of a huge company, and Wal-Mart has inexpensive goods because it has a low margin. Also, consumption will increase the economy of the county. However, you should know future of the Wal-Mart.

First, Wal-Mart is killing other stores. Everybody has a job, such as grocery stores, clothes stores, and electric stores. Wal-Mart has all kinds of goods, so customers, including owners of other stores, will go to Wal-Mart, because they can save their time. Therefore, many stores are closed by Wal-Mart.
Second, many people will go there, so it will make a traffic jam. Murphysboro has no public transportation, so customers have to drive their car when they go to Wal-Mart. It is trust traffic jams make a lot of stress.

Third, if Wal-Mart monopolizes the market after small stores close, customers have no choice about where to buy goods. Also, Wal-Mart can decide on an expensive price of goods, so customers will have a disadvantage.

In conclusion, if people who live in Murphysboro should protect Murphysboro, and they want to increase quality of their life, they have to wisely chose for Murphysboro.

Reference
Cates, K. There are so many kind of stuff and many stuff of Wal-Mart are cheap.

When I went to the Wal-Mart, I was surprised by much stuff. Also, the system of Wal-Mart is easy to find something because there are many sections such as food corner, cloth corner, and whatever. Actually, many international people, who live in the US first time, have the problem to find the store in a town. Also, I couldn’t find the stores because I couldn’t ask to American. I mean that if I want to buy some food and cloth, I had to know where the food store and cloth store. However, I can buy both because I could find easily both food and cloth in Wal-Mart.

When I went to the Wal-Mart first time, my feel was so happy. However, I am careful my impulse shopping today. During the shopping in Wal-Mart, I cannot control by myself because I want to buy anything. So I try to prepare my list of stuffs, which are important to me, when I go to buy in Wal-Mart.

In conclusion, it is obvious that Wal-Mart is very big company and useful store to customers. S/R
ERIC JANG

E. Kaiser said that Wal-Mart is the biggest store in the world. Some people don’t like Wal-Mart, and the other people like Wal-Mart. There is the UFF-DA WAL-MART, which is the anti Wal-Mart group. Actually, some states don’t support development of Wal-Mart. Nevertheless, Wal-Mart is going to try to build bigger stores.
It is obvious that not only does Wal-Mart give us convenience to our life, but also we can buy anything, because there are so many kinds of stores such as food store, a drug store, and whatever. Also we can conduct our banking service. However, some people don’t like the supercenters of Wal-Mart because they believe that many stores are killed by Wal-Mart. I think that it is war to arrive in the world. We can solve these problems in three ways.

First, Wal-Mart should support other stores, if the small stores recognized them. I know the US is in times of open competition. However, they should know that it is not open competition if they hurt any rival stores. If Wal-Mart supported the many small stores, they could be the real and perfect store in the US. For example, there are obviously special goods, which are not goods of Wal-Mart, each town. Therefore, if Wal-Mart advertise for stores, they can make a good relationship each other.

Second, Wal-Mart should not expand any more. When Wal-Mart came into being in the US, many people gave cheers to Wal-Mart because it had epochal marketing. This means that people were fine about normal Wal-Mart. However, if Wal-Mart wants to extend to huge stores, people don’t like that, because people want to see much kind of stores. For example, if exists only Wal-Mart in the US, probably many people don’t want this situation, because people have to buy all stuff in Wal-Mart.

Third, Wal-Mart should not try to build huge stores, but should think about how to manage the quality of Wal-Mart. It is not true that people like only huge stores. If a store is just a big store, people will not go there because there is nothing to buy. And now, Wal-Mart has many problems. For example, there are not a variety of goods, and there are no high-quality goods. Wal-Mart pursues only system of cheap goods.

In conclusion, Wal-Mart gives us convenience in our lives, but they are killing small stores. There was a wise saying from Korea a long time ago that if you have a lot of cupidity, you will be perished by your cupidity. This means that Wal-Mart could be the best market in the US without small stores. However, if they still try to build supercenters in a town, they will be resented by many customers and small storekeepers. In fact, some people who hate Wal-Mart made the group, which is UFF-DA WAL-MART. They are not going to buy anything in Wal-Mart. If this group would develop to a huge group in the US, Wal-Mart could not stay in the US any more.

Kaiser, E. (July 12, 2003). Some cities resisting Wal-Mart expansion. First, ludus love is entertainment, excitement, and enjoyment also unseriousness. However, if love is not interesting to ludus lovers, their relationship will terminate. Second, storge love is opposite mean with ludus love because ludic lover is aware of feeling, but the storge lover is unaware of any intensity of sentiment. Third, manic love has two reactions about love: elation and depression. The manic lover wants to be possessed, and needs to give and take unchanging attention and affection, but often he is unhappy because of poor self-image. Fourth, finding soul mate, similar and different with him, in computer is pragma lover. He can keep relationship, if he and his partner have similar characters each other, but otherwise they will break up relationship. Finally, erotic lover has an ideal type mate, who is beauty, and bewitching, so he wants to have experience about love as quickly as he can. However, it is difficult to do that, so they often feel unfulfilled.

Response to “Types of Love”

I was interested in this article because I did not know about many kinds of love.
One of the interesting types is ludus type. When I was high school student, I think that I had several experiences of ludus type. I never met a girl friend that was like a soul mate. In fact, I had several ex-girl friends, but I do not think that they were my soul mates because we were just ludus lovers. For example, I met a girl who was beautiful, attractive, and kind, so I had to fall in love. Also we spent a nice time doing this like watching movies and dancing. However, after few days, our love did not have passion, and then we broke up. I think that it was not love but just enjoyment.
Actually, I pursue storge love. I think that love is like the stone and moss. It takes a long time for moss to take root on a stone. However, once it does, the moss remains until it dies. Also the stone accepts the moss. Storge love means respecting each other, and helping each other as the stone and a moss accept each other. I am looking for a fiancée who is a storge lover. Also, from the viewpoint of pragma love, it is better that if my fiancée can be a qualification such as a healthy person with a beautiful and sincere mind and a pretty face. However, if I love a woman, she is certainly equipped with these items.
In conclusion, love is important in my whole life. In my opinion, storge love is the most important because storge lovers can know everything about each other. Also, when you love someone, the most important thing is not the initial romantic love, but keeping that love alive over time.

Reference
Seal, B. (1997). Since I was born, the most important thing in my life was that I had decided my major. When I was adolescent, I always ask to myself what I want to do because I had to start studying about my major. Now I am studying about design because I decided my dream when I was high school student. I will describe how did I decision my major.
First, I gave influence to my father when I decide my major. My father is a visual designer also professor in Korea. Since I was child, I have seen my father’s work room and my father’s behavior to draw a picture everyday so to draw a picture is interesting to me. Second, I love to draw a picture also I thought that to draw a picture was more interest than to study anything. So I always have bitter experiences to my mother or my teacher because I drew a picture on the textbook, on the wall, and others during class time. Third, I am sure about my major because I like that. Some people, who are my friends or an acquaintance, are not sure that I can make lots of money to draw a picture. I know that money is important stuff but it is not my dream. Therefore, I do not care even though that I will be a poor person because it is just my life and dream.
In conclusion, I am exciting because I will be the most famous designer in the world. Also I have to prepare to be the most famous designer. I saw some people, who did not decide their dream or did not prepare their dream when they were students, just worked in the office. They just type some papers in the small office everyday. Even some people don’t have a job. Unless I would be like that people, I have to certainly prepare about my dream.

What I Will Do Next Week.

In Thanks Giving Day, I am going to buy something because there are so many stores have sale many stuffs. I surprised this event, which is many stuffs will very cheaper than any days in the US because Korea does not have an event like this. I have a list what I want to buy. For example, I would like to buy a computer, a MP3 player, a stand light, and others. Therefore, my plan is that I will go to the Best Buy in Carbondale for waiting start time with my friends at 4am on Friday, and then when the Best Buy open the door, we will buy many things. In fact, many people even handicapped people, who have no arms, use body language when they are talking to each other. As many people use body language, it helps listener easier to understand what is speaker saying.
In according the textbook, nonverbal communication exists in a context, and that context determines to a large extent the meaning of any nonverbal behaviors (Seal 1997). For example, in a particular culture, if you are making a circle to your fingers, you are saying O.K, or if you are raising your thumb, you are saying No.1. In this way, all body languages have a meaning. If body languages have no meaning, they are not nonverbal communication. Nonverbal behaviors are usually packaged (Seal 1997). If a speaker looks up or down when he is talking to each other, he will be thinking, for example. In studies conducted on gazing behavior and summarized by Knapp and Hall (1992), it has been found that listeners gaze at speakers more than speakers gaze at listeners. Body language is different between listener and speaker. For example, to keep eye contacting is body language for listener because this means that I carefully listen to you.
Our group, who are Saori Tabuchi and I, observed many people about body language when people were talking to each other. We went to the Student Center because there are many people in the Student Center.
We wanted to know how do people use body language, and what kind of body language they use; also why do they use body language? We wondered if their feeling was better when they use body language, moreover. We carefully looked at people about their behavior. For example, what is the common body language and specific body language? Also we made observation about difference between males and females.

Methods and Procedures
We decided to go to the Student Center from 1Pm to 2Pm because there are so many people in the Student Center at lunchtime. We could find many people who were talking with their friends, co-workers, and partners in McDonalds area. We watched far from people because we wanted to see natural body language. We observed 5 males and 7 females who were eating lunch. Some people looked happy; other people looked sad or serious. Immediately, we started to write on the piece of paper what kind of body language they used, and how many times they used it.

Results
12 People, who were observed by us, composed 5 males / 7 females and 11 whites / 1 Asian. They also looked young age except 2 persons, who looked co-worker. As a result, we could find interesting results and none interesting results to us. There are difference roles between speaker and listener. Listeners usually clasped their hands, put an elbow on the table or keep eye contact when they listen to speaker. This action means that I am listening carefully to you. On the other hands, speakers usually looked up at the ceiling when they were thinking. They also used their arms when they were explaining something. Some people (50%) had eye contact, and the other people (50%) did not have eye contact. However, listeners usually had eye contact. Many women (85%) listeners crossed their legs or their arms. The others, both speakers and listeners used nodding or shaking head, grabbing or clasping hand, and etcetera.
From this gesture, we could discover difference between speaker and listener from them. Moreover, I though that young people looked more energetic than old people because young people’s action is bigger than old people’s action. American people always smile and have eye contact when they were talking to each other even they looked so serious.

Discussion and Conclusion
After survey, we were surprised that listeners look more at speaker because listeners want to show he listens carefully to you. We expected that many people had eye contact when they are talking to each other, but only 50% people had eye contact in our survey. Another one, body language has many kinds of meaning. For example, if speaker looks up at the ceiling during speaking, he is thinking, or if listener grabs his hands when he listens, he wants to show he is listening, and he is interesting in a speaker’s topic. Also, we have the same result with our expectation about eye contact. They all kept contacting their eyes when they were talking to each other because I though that eye contact is important to them about communication. Next, we repented that we did not handle about survey of various ages. If I have another opportunity about survey of body language, I wish to add various ages to my survey. Also, we tried to observe their feeling when they used body language, but we couldn’t know that because we couldn’t directly ask them.

References
Seal, B. However, almost all Korean people have many problems while they live in the US. It is natural about that because of different cultures, foods, and environment. Now, I am going to discuss what problems are and how to solve about the problems. And I hope that you recognize about Korean’s problems and then it progress relationship between American and Korean after you read it.
First, Korean does not have confidence in the US, so they have many trouble to live. After 9/11, the US government strengthened social system about international people because of terror. Therefore, Korean did not get SSN (social security number) from the US government. However, we know that it is hard to live in the US to the person, who does not have SSN. For example, the car is the most important requirement in the US, so Korean has to buy a car when they came the US. However, although a car is too expensive, Korean had to pay whole price. I mean Korean cannot divide pay every month because we do not have confidence. Also, let’s see about the drive license. Since 2004, international people did not get a drive license because of SSN. There is one consolation in sadness that after 2005, international people could get drive license because we could get the letter instead of SSN from the government. However, it still has a problem that the drive license cannot valid for identification because this letter said, “This person can take a drive test even he does not have a SSN.” Another example, if Korean buy a cell phone, we have to buy prepay phone, also we do not get many advantages from the company of cell phone. There are so many packages about a charge, but we cannot choice about that because we do not have a confidence. Therefore, it is hard to live in the US to international people include Korean, who do not have a SSN. It is a great solution that US government should guarantee at least to live in the US to Korean
Second, I think that some American has some stereotypes about Korean. Some American thinks that Korean cannot speak English well or Korean cannot work well. In my case, when I went to the airport in Chicago, I didn’t know where the airport is, so I asked an American how to go to the airport. However, he didn’t answer to me even he didn’t try to hear what I am saying. Also, it is hard to get a job to Korean include international people. In my friend’s case, my friend wanted to work in the American company, so he took an interview test. After, he would compete with another American interviewee. However, although he had the same background with another interviewee, and he is native speaker, my friend could not success to win because of Asian. On the other hand, there is a strange problem to me. Although many young American guys like Asian girls, almost all young American girls do not want to be Asian guy’s fiancée. Therefore, making young American girl friend is difficult to Korean guys. However, it cannot be true and this trouble is the problem long time ago because I have some great American girl friends, and American helped me when I had a trouble last time. Also I know that the present time, many American are changing their thinking about Korean people. However, we still need help from American, therefore, the US government should try to change thinking about Korean stereotypes to American.
Third, I hope American have to understand and recognize Korean culture. For example, most American worries about the war between North Korea and South Korea. However, we are the same nation from history. We do not want to get the war each other anymore, and we want to be one country not a divided country. Another example, after we had the Korea War, many people had to find some food. Korea is small country, so we could not breed many cows. Therefore, a dog is great food to find easily on the street. Eating dog is just Korean food’s culture, and a dog was the most important food to Korean. And now, a dog becomes also the most important friend to Korean. Some people enjoy eating a dog, but I never shameful think because it is our momentous culture and sad history. I mean that some American criticizes about eating a dog, but it is natural that many countries have a special culture. Therefore, criticizing about other’s culture is egoism thinking. And American include another country’s people have to understand and recognize Korean culture, also Korean, too. Moreover, American think that Korean is more extreme that any other Asian because Korean had a many demonstration to Korean government for a short time and many people got hurt when Korean government was not perfect. Actually, some Korean is a sanguine temperament people, but Korean usually is gentle, meek, and pure people.
In conclusion, it is natural that not only Korean but also international people have problems to American or the US, but American can solve these problems if they try to solve it for international and Korean people. Many young people think that America is dream country and they want to study or work in the US because they want to realize their own dream. Many people think that America is the number one country about numerical things such as economy, weapon, and the others, but they don’t think that American is not yet real the best country. When America and International country help each other, American can be the real best country.

About Catch Me If You Can

1. In the 1970s, young Romanians learned about computer. Also, graduates of schools there had computer skills that competed any countries, but most of them could not afford computers because the economy took a turn for the worse. Now, as both countries slowly changed capitalism, new businesses are being created that take benefit of techniques. Thereupon, Romania along with Russia is a hotbed of computer crime. So, they set a jail penalty of up to 15 years for computer crime. Also, they are keep trying defending from many hackers. I think that governments use hackers. Precisely, if governments engage many hackers, they can get many profits, and clear many problems about virus. I will introduce how governments get many profits.
First, hackers have a skill about computer. Also, hackers well know about virus and computer’s problems because hackers make all viruses. Change an expression hackers can clear all viruses. For example, in Korea, hackers attacked a web site of the government in 1990s. However, the Korean government employed some hackers, and then hackers found bad hackers who attacked web site of the government. Unless the government employed hackers, they could not arrest bad hackers.
Second, modern times, it is the biggest problem that unemployment rate has increase in the whole world. Also, most hackers are an unemployed. Therefore, if hackers get job, which is cleaning a virus in the government or company about computer, unemployment rate will decrease in the whole world.
Third, we well know that if the government defends from a hackers’ attack, the government has to pay a lot of money. However, if the government makes hackers to be on our team, they can decrease an estimate about a business, which defends from hackers. In conclusion, I think it is better that the government does not concentrate to arrest hackers, and they have to make a plan about making profitable hackers. Then, the government can easily solve this problem. It is good chance that solving many problems with one way.

Elementary DESIGN

What can you do with a 2-inch square?

Julie Alsip Bucknam(2005) in the “Elementary design” says, elementary design is the most important point to design; so elementary students can be designer. At first, you order them make thumbnail sketches and then you order them select a favorite composition. Then they can precede to the next step that is drawing about thumbnail sketches same pattern in the 12 squares, which made by 2-inch. Next, they compound the 12 squares like puzzle. What happens? You and they never can think about this pattern because it made by fortuity. Finally, ask to students about that. What types of shapes do you see? Which is your favorite and why? And, it is very important things that are sure to say something positive, and not to insult. I think that it is very important education to elementary students. Unless they want to be designer, they have to learn about originality because they are better than an adult about superior idea. This program, making 2-inch square, can make elementary students to be great person, who has originality thinking. In fact, some designers quote from children’s thinking because of creating idea. Most designer have learned same pattern from textbook about design when they study about design. Therefore, sometimes their idea couldn’t get out of a form each other. However, children didn’t have learned about design yet, we are surprised by their idea. In conclusion, it is very consequence that growing power of creation to elementary students.

My adolescence was influence by

Adolescence is a period of your whole life. Also it can divide three document which are physical change, emotional, and socially. Usually, adolescent have an experience about changing their body, and have many problems about themselves. Also, most adolescent decide their future what do they want to be or what do they want to do. There are important people, who influence in adolescence because you can change or decide your future because of them. I am going to explain about in my adolescence, how my family, friends, and favorite artist influenced me.
First, when I was adolescent, I decided my future that I wanted to be artist who draws a picture because of my family. My father is painter also professor in Korea, so I could see how to draw a picture because he always draws a picture in the house. Also, I could draw a picture because I had many stuff to draw a picture. It was an opportunity to me. And, my mother showed me many pictures, which are famous pictures in the world. It was a chance to me to have a dream, which is artist.
Second, my friend, who learns picture with me, always helps to me when I was difficult. For example, I always went to the art institute when I was high school student. I had to draw a picture per day because of going to university. So I had many problems kind of a slump. At that time, my friend helped me. Unless I had a friend, I would give up my dream and then I would find another dream.
Third, my favorite artist is Salvador Dali, who is famous artist in the world. I like his picture because his thinking gave me fresh shock about picture. Also, he wrote his journal about his future how to live, and then he kept a self’s promise until died. It was shock to me because I think that it is too hard. Therefore, I would be like him and I thought that making a plan is important.
In conclusion, I think that adolescence is the most important period in my life because I decided my future also had my dream. Unless I have adolescence in my life, I would wander because I could not decide my future. It is obvious that they, who influenced you, are important your life. However they are just giving you some assistance, they cannot make your future. Your future is made in yourself. If you are adolescent, you have to spend time very well because you can be live successful life or not. There are many stressors, including disasters, the loss of a job and others. Hans Seyle, who is physiologist from Canada, has proposed that both humans and other animals react to any stressor in three stages, which are called by the general adaptation syndrome. There are three levels that are the alarm reaction, resistance, and exhaustion. The alarm reaction is physical metal response and resistance is adapting or escaping, and exhaustion is the organism breakdown or collapse. He did experiments about the general adaptation syndrome between rats and humans. As a result, the rats couldn’t predict about stress from problems, but humans could predict about stress. However, human could not perfect solve about stress because human’s stress reactions are various; stressors can change from person to person.

How has the Internet influenced your home country?

These days, the Internet is important in our life. The Internet gives us convenience, usefulness, and anything. I think that the Internet is the most importance exists in Korea because almost every person uses the Internet when they work at office, or look for some information. Now, I am going to explain about the Internet life of Korean. First, almost Koreans use the Internet when they looked for some information. The Internet has many strong points. It is possible that the Internet use anywhere, anytime, anyone. For example, if they need information about story of Afghanistan, they can know about it, although they do not go Afghanistan. Another one, although they look for some data about a public institution on Sunday, they can find it. Second, when almost Korean wants to talk to another people who live far away from here, they used the Internet. The Internet has many functions. One of many functions is chatting program. The chatting program is possible that people is possible that people talk to foreigner. One of the programs in computer is the chatting program, which is network program. If you want to the chatting program, you have to give download setup file about chatting program. After you install setup file, and then you can run chatting program. Third, in Korea, sometimes university students used the Internet when they studied in a class. For example, when university students wrote some reports, and when they sent their professor a question about an assignment, they used an e-mail or weblog. Also, if class is cancel, they can study in the Internet. Another example, Korean universities have a cyber class. It is possible that can study their major in their house. In conclusion, the Internet occupies a part of life, and it must exist in the world include Korea because the Internet gives us anything. However, sometimes we spent a lot of time the Internet, so it gives us harmful our healthy. Do not forget that your health is more important than the Internet.

FUN AND GAMES?

In the article “Fun and games,” from Troubledwith, by Steven Isaac, Today’s kids, and even some adults are wildly excited about gaming. A large number of investigate show that playing violent video games can increase aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior. As the graphics of video games in general get more realistic, the danger of them eliciting aggression and insensibility in the customer would be greater. Accordingly, Brazil and Canada have taken steps to restrict some of the violent game; also the US made a grade, which is deliberation provision about video games. However, you do not believe a label at all, and you had better play with your children. So, I think that video games affect our children.
First, your children are confused by video games because children confuse fantasy with reality. For example, if your kids become addicted by violent games, they can kill someone because they can use guns on video games. Then, it is possible that your kids, who do not have ability of division, could kill person in the real world. In fact, most young criminals imitated crime from violent video games. For example, the Elephant, which is the US movie, treats about two high school students criminal. This story is a violent incident rocks the students and faculty at a high school in Portland, Oregon.
Second, your kids can speedily or recklessly drive a sports car on a video game. In fact, when I played video games about racing, I had to go to school late. So, after quickly finished the game, I directly drove my car. But I couldn’t control myself because I had an impulse about reckless driving. After that I never played a video game about racing. Therefore, it is very dangerous to your children. When your kids, who like racing games, become adults, they could become reckless drivers.
Third, might not have enough family time. If your kids have a lot of free time, they could a joystick again and again. If you really love your kids, your responsibility is to play with them. Then, your kids can be healthy, and you and your children are more familiar with each other. Actually, most children, who are addicted by video games, cannot play with their parents because their parents are so busy everyday.
In conclusion, video games might your children harmful minds. So, you must tell your children about the video game’s injuriousness, and you have to encourage your kids to play more sports. Then your children could a healthier lifestyle. I hope that all children grow up healthier, and the violent video game does not exist in the world.

Design

Which is better?
I have two sites about Praha travel.

This name of site is Access-travel, which introduce hotel price and some information about Praha, also Czech Republic. This site has a strong color that is a original red and a original blue. Therefore, it makes me sick my eyes because main colors are so strong. Also, layout is in bad shape. I have to scroll to down homepage if I search information about Praha travel.

This name of site is Travel Pages, which include hotel, apartment, and pensions. Also I can see many information at a glance. I think that main site is a little confused for search some information. However, When I quickly search many information, it is the best layout. Also, color is so nice. White's background and cadetblue's text are the best harmony because it gives me relaxation.

About Alignment
Is alignment good and peaceful? Yes! Alignment is the most important in layout when designer design anything. Look at first picture, it is uncomfortable to see because it does not alignment. When we read some text, a direction is right to left. So, if left area does not alignment in the paragraph, we will feel uncomfortable. Look at this picture! This paragraph is comfortable to see it. Also two lines add in the paragraph, we can read more comfortable text.

About Contrast

Contrast is necessary between type and background. Make a comparison between yellow background and dark yellow background, we can know which one is better. The most contrast colors are black and yellow.
